2026 Get Started in OSINT

Getting started with OSINT can be overwhelming

When I first started learning OSINT, the sheer volume of Start.me pages and resources was honestly overwhelming. Don't get me wrong—those pages are incredibly valuable. They work so well because they’ve been meticulously curated over time by experts who know exactly what tools matter.

While curiosity is a great starting point, I always caution anyone new to OSINT to prioritize OPSEC (Operational Security) first. It is critical to avoid accessing websites or profiles that could inadvertently link back to your personal identity. One of the most effective ways to maintain this separation is by conducting all your research within a Virtual Machine.

Here are some great resources to begin with in your OSINT journey. Many of these courses are FREE or low cost.

I think that the above resources offer a good variety of learning. My advice would be to stay focused on learning fundamentals and tradecraft before exploring the shiny new tools.
