OSINT Academy Week 5
Week 5 has been amazing! This week we covered "Technical Research" learning about processes and tools that allow you to dig deep into the following areas.
I learned advanced research skills with:
- Emails
- Documents
- Images
- Videos
- Domains
- IP Addresses
I discovered a number of fascinating processes and tools that I hadn’t been aware of before. One that stood out to me was the ability to convert a .pptx file into a .zip archive, allowing it to be extracted locally. This process reveals several directories containing the images and other components of the original file, which can then be individually analyzed for metadata and EXIF data.
Another thing I found really interesting was how much information can be uncovered about emails, domains, and IP addresses. While a lot of WHOIS data has been redacted in recent years, I enjoyed learning how to dig into historical records to retrieve that information.
I also picked up several techniques for searching YouTube videos and comments more effectively, along with methods for bypassing geographic restrictions — all without relying on a VPN.
