OSINT tips with Whoxy
I have been diving into several blogs and videos to learn about OSINT. I have found some great resources that I will share at the end of this post. I have been familiar with WHOIS for many years. Typically, I use it in the command line to research client's domains to see who they are hosted with, when the domain expires, and nameservers.
I recently read a blog post from Griffin Glynn where he discussed some search tips for WHOIS using Whoxy. Using this website, you can search for past domain names using a name, business, email address, or keyword. These days, most of the WHOIS info is redacted for privacy, but as Griffin explained, you can find old domains that may offer the information you are looking for.
Learning about OSINT is very interesting to me. I have always wanted to hunt people down, using my past Law Enforcement experience, as well as my technology skills. I would find it very rewarding to help with investigations that helped people around the world, especially exploited children. I've had some knowledge of the horrible practice of child trafficking, but not of the magnitude in which it was happening. I was awakened to just how bad this horrible crime has gotten after watching the movie, Sound of Freedom. The entire time I was watching that movie, my anger was building. I just kept thinking, how could I use my passion for technology and previous Law Enforcement experience to help hunt those monsters down?
I plan to continue learning about OSINT and honing my skills. I hope that one day, I will be able to use those skills to help hunt down the monsters that are trafficking children all over the world!
