"War Games" was my gateway

When I was in 5th grade, our school received computers. I was so excited, it was the first computer I had ever seen. I still remember it was an Apple IIe with a dot matrix printer. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it, and my teacher could see how interested I was, so she taught me how to boot it and made me her assistant. I was responsible for booting the machine and helping other kids learn how to use it.

I don't remember exactly what year I watched the movie "War Games" but, it was around that time. I remember what fascinated me most was the fact that you could hide content on a computer with the use of a password. That concept was so fascinating to me, I just really loved being able to secure things. As a kid, I always bought padlocks and was fascinated with how locks worked and could be picked.

After watching War Games, I was hooked. I wanted to be on that school computer every chance I could get. Even though it was such a simple computer, I needed to know how it worked. From that day forward, every Christmas I asked my mom for a computer, but I guess she couldn't afford it because I never got one. Each Christmas morning, I would wake up thinking that this was the year I was going to have a computer, but it never happened.

If you are a fellow geek, then you know exactly what I am talking about. There is a movie, or some encounter with a computer when you knew that you were hooked. When I meet another geek like myself, I can immediately strike up a conversation, make a new connection, and maybe even learn something new.

I love to learn about technology and also teach others how it can be used to help them become more productive and successful. I am currently training to obtain a certification in Security+ and then I will continue towards a Certified Ethical Hacker certification.

This is a new blog I started to document the things I am learning and to serve as a place to share my skillset and projects. Please subscribe if you want to keep up with what I am learning.
